“Great stay at Charlotte Hilton”

Hilton Charlotte Center City

I was hesitant to stay here based on several negative Trip Advisor reviews but this met my desire for newly-renovated rooms so we went ahead and stayed for 2 nights in April 08.

No problems at all, a very nice hotel, great location downtown.

THE GOOD: rooms completely re-done in April 07. Nice marble entry (much better than the normal carpet right at the door), vibrant but unusual purple and red colour scheme. super-comfy bed with high quality linens, 7-foot work station. Loved the bathroom, with a walk in shower, extensive counter space, fluffly, large, new towels. Staff met my request for extra items (2 separate calls), both times it was delivered within 5 min, and, they called to see if I got what I wanted. Buffet breakfast ($17) served in a temporary location (meeting room), but huge variety, smoked salmon, frest fruit, potatoes, grits, omelette station, and very attentive service from the waitstaff.

THE BAD: main entry to the hotel is on the car-drop off level, so all you see upon arrival is the front desk, a couple of chairs, and the elevator. This may be temporary, they are doing extensive renovations to the upper outside level (fountain, etc.). There is an entry there that may be the main one. Lobby and elevators have not been re-done, and have a late '80's look. Gym hours are limited (1-5pm on Sun.) and for a hotel of this caliber, they need to do better than that (currently in conjunction with the YMCA). Our cable went out during a rainstorm, and there are not a lot of channels (only about 30), Several of the drawers in the room are permanently shut (?)

Overall, don't hesitate to stay here, it more than met our needs, was clean, quiet and staff were efficient.

“An enjoyable stay”

I had an enjoyable stay at the Hilton Charlotte Center City, and I would say this hotel is fairly comparable to my experiences at brands such as Renaissance, Sheridan, and Marriott. The room seemed to be a little on the small side in comparison, but it didn't feel cramped. Our bathroom featured a shower and bathtub, but I believe the majority of rooms feature a large shower only. I found the room to be extremely clean, and the furniture all seem new. The decor includes crown molding and an interesting and perhaps off color scheme choice of purple and gold with red trim. One of the nicest aspects of the room is the 42" flat panel television, and what the hotel calls the "Guestlink System." While many hotels make it difficult to hook up your own electronics or video game system to their TV, this hotel has a console specifically for that. It was simple to plug up my laptop to the TV and watch DVDs, and the wireless internet worked fine.

I stayed on the executive floor, the 22nd and top floor, which runs about forty dollars more. This gives your access to the executive lounge and bar, where you can get free bottle water, sodas, and snacks, and the executive business center. They serve hors d'oeuvres which included a nice spread of cheeses and deli meats, fresh fruit, and hot chicken skewers. Also served is evening desserts and a continental breakfast. The staff here were very friendly and were able to offer good advice on local restaurants. Executive level perks also included turndown service, bathrobe, and YMCA access.

While the renovations in the rooms is finished, the on site restaurant and bar and still undergoing work, and they have set up temporary buffets. This was not a problem for me, since there are a wide variety of higher quality establishments in easy walking distance, along with the new light rail line being just outside the door.

With reservations for attendance to the Audiology Convention we were told at 5pm that although they had our reservation that there was a massive late check out and there were currently no rooms available. The rooms were in the process of being cleaned. The clerk asked for our phone number and said it should be about 30 minutes. After about 40 minutes with no call we noticed others getting room keys. We were finally showed to our room.

For a hotel that was recently renovated the room didn't reflect such renovation. Although the bathroom counter was nice, the vent that was located in the shower (why?) had about 3 inches of dust and dirt hanging off of it. The same can be said for the vent system in the room itself. The room definitely showed wear and tear that shouldn't have been seen after only 3-6 months from a renovation but of a hotel of many years.

The walls were paper thin and the doors weigh so much it's hard to get in and out of the room much less keep them from slamming when closing.

The flat screen television was a nice upgrade. Too bad the tv service was sorely lacking. There were probably 30 channels that could be found in the most basic of cable subscriptions with no prime stations. The stations that were received had to be watched with either snow or a considerably fuzzy picture.

With the rate being paid for a room, it would have been nice to have internet service included.

Just remember, with a renovation or any hotel..........a nice lobby does not a hotel make!

After hotwire gave this hotel a 4 star, i felt excited to try it out (especially since I got such a good price), but after my 4 hour drive, i was disappointed in a few ways. First I reserved the room for 4ppl, 2 kids, 2 adults. I wound up getting 2 DOUBLE beds, which was awful. The comfort of the mattreses was fine, no problem, but having 2 adults share a DOUBLE bed (which was more like a twin). My husband & I tossed & turned all nite. We practically had to lay in one position. This was the worst, the same was said for my kids. the double bed just wasnt cutting it, I'm glad we only stayed one night. The decor was fine. We had a difficult time adjusting the stand up only shower. the water would always readjust during the shower & almost scalded me a few times. ok, 42" plasma, nice right? well why have an HD tv when ALL of the channels are analog. Every station was grainy, so what's the point? Last, be prepared to pay $22 for valet parking or $18 to self park. I wouldnt go back here again, even if the price was good. Hotwire, what a let down.

Nice hotel close to the convention center. It's about a block away from the convention center, an easy walk through the back entrance/exit. The convention center is between the Hilton and the Westin. Close by is a Hampton and Garden Inn. The hilton entrance is probably closest of the three, especially if you're making a run for it in the rain.
It's a nice hotel that is going through some renovations. The rooms are full sized, have a flat screen TV, and a large work table, probably ten feet long. They also inclue a couple of bottled waters in the room.
I got the AAA rate of $125, plus $18 for parking. However, the parking covered the day I checked in, plus the next day. I didn't leave until about 5:00 pm, so it covered more than just a 24 hour period, which is good if you just want to put your stuff in the car and attend a convention. The housekeeping is very good.
A couple of things to know: My room did not have a bath. It was a shower only. A large shower, probably 6' x 3'. New shower head. But, if you want a bath, you probably have to ask for it when you order your room. Also, the shower has to be entered from the far entrance of the shower, meaning that if you don't push the shower head out to one side, you will get the cold water on you when you turn it on. The sink has a faucet that is a 4" slit, rather than a 1" round hole. Which is okay, but if you're trying to put water in a glass, the water is running wider than the glass. You have to turn down the water pressure to keep from making a mess. The rooms, which are nice and modern, have no microwave or refrigerator. I didn't go look to see if ice and vending is on every floor, or every other floor.
Nice place, good location, especially if you are looking for something close to the convention center. There are a number of inexpensive restaurants close by: Pizzeria Uno, another pizza-by-the-slice place, plus a mexican restaurant and fish place. Very gllod location within walking distance of a lot of restaurants.
