Spent 2 weekend nights to get to know Charlotte. It's about a 20 minute drive to Center City and at least 15 minutes to any interesting restaurant. The hotel seemed recently updated and had the signature Mariott luxury bed, flat screen TV granite top on everything, etc. The staff was super helpful and friendly. There was a junior high basketball tournament going on with teams from all over the South but the staff put us in a nice and quite corner room. The breakfast was quite delicious and the waitress stepped in to cook our omelet herself when she couldn't find the chef. Overall a very good value since the Marriott in Center City was at least 120 dollars more a night.

“Very Nice Hotel”

Had a recent 3 night stay to attend a business conference being held there. The hotel is situated close (but not next to) a train service, and near major highways for easy access. Restaurants and shopping within walking distance. I drove to the location and upon arrival, there were no porters or bell hops to greet me, take my luggage, nor valet park my car. That was a disappointment. Check-in was quick and easy by friendly clerks. The room was spacious, clean and updated. Of particular note were the following: large LCD tv with High Def reception, oversized new desk with plenty of space for spreading out while working, small table beside desk for additional workspace. Couch (instead of single chair) for tv viewing, second bathroon sink and mirror outside of main bathroom (nice to be able to wash up or fix makeup while someone else is in the main bathroom), individual overhead reading lights affixed to headboard on both sides of the bed. Food was okay. Our conference offered no real choices for vegetarians, or people on low carb or sugar free diets. I imagine that was probably because our conf people did a poor job of ordering our meals. The hotel staff were very nice everywhere you went. I worked in a conf room very late with a co-worked and room service served us there, and the gentleman who served us was very pleasant, funny and solicitous. Another time, I saw a hotel staff member RUN to the front door in order to open a door for a guest exiting the hotel. That was impressive. Great smell in the lobby (the result of hotel janitorial staff spraying something pleasing in the air I happened to notice).

The only con comments I have is that the bedside phone and lamp did not work, and after calling down to the front desk the first night, no one ever came to fix it or replace it during my 3 days there. Also, room service the first night took 2x as long as they told me it would (it was only a quick cooking fish dish) and I had to call down to ask where it was.

As for the internet service everyone at our meeting had connection issues in their rooms. Not sure if it was the hotel service or our server, but I also had connection issues one night working late in the conference room, the wired internet went down around 9pm and no one was available to fix it as that service is hired out. After nearly 1.5 hours, a co-worker and I were able to get it back working and continued on, but that cost us considerable work time.

All in all I'd definitely recommend this hotel. It has a workout area, indoor pool and wireless service in the lobby and restaurants.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — nice room and friendly staff
    • Disliked — Spotty internet connection and food choices during conference (probably not hotel's fault)

We stayed here for an athletic competition. This was the host hotel. The Marriott name usually means high end, high quality. For the most part, it was. The good first. Very clean room, comfortable beds, great amenities. Loved the corner room: never heard a word or motion in the hall or otherwise. The breakfast was very good; attentive staff. The pasta dinner for the group was wonderful; well done, tasty, well-priced, and bountiful. The location was good, nice surroundings.

The 'bad'. The heater in our room was incredibly loud. At first I woke up thinking there was a large delivery truck outside our window...then I realized we were on the 5th floor. It was the heater. It was unbelieveably loud......with a wide variety of noises. The shower was awful. It went from scalding to cold in moments (and I just read that someone else had this problem too at this hotel).

I did mention these items to the front desk; he was very kind and wrote it all down. We even got a phone call saying they had replaced a burnt out overhead bulb, and that the shower checked out okay. He said the heater can be like that at first. He did give us a card allowing us a choice of complimentary items.

The heater was even worse the next night (a colder night). I wound up shutting it off "economy" and we froze. I got up 1/2 hour earlier and turned it on (LOUD). Lousy night sleep. The shower was no better the next day.

Overall, I enjoyed the location, the staff, the hotel itself. I just cannot believe how bad the heater and the shower problem is.....these things need to be looked at!

I have booked this hotel approx. 10 times. It is great for business and here is why:
The hotel is completely renovated- everything is new and fresh.
The staff is very professional- I have never experienced any problems whatsoever.
And the price is beyond a good deal- check hotwire for the best price!
I stay here all the time for business. One negative is that the area is not super fantastic (lacks restuarants and cool stores) but head over to South Park for any gourmet needs! A great favorite!
