“Nice Stay”

Hilton Charlotte University Place

Feb 25, 2008

I stayed here for a seminar. There was construction taking place at the hotel, but it was not noisy or disruptive. One day the tile was being replaced in the lobby and you had to walk around yellow tapes, etc. but it was not a big deal.
There were a number of things that were especially good about this property--free wireless was one. I greatly apprerciated the free wireless, but the service was a bit problematic. I had a number of drops while using it but I was still grateful for it.
The best t hing about this place is the restaurant. The food was above par--the kitchen here really knows what they are doing. I had multiple meals in the on-site restaurant, room service, as well as meals served for the seminar and all were exceptional.
The rooms appear to have been recently upgraded and the style is very modern. The look is attractive though the ceramic bowl sink which sits on the bathroom counter is a bit difficult to use as the faucet sits so close to the bowl.
The water pressure was good and the bathroom amenties were crabtree and evelyn.
I was able to work easily in the room and appreciated the large desk and the large flatscreen television.
The hotel is adjacent to the University Place shopping district and there are places within walking distance to eat and shop. There were some rough looking fellows wandering around this neighborhood which is why I ate most evening meals in the hotel. I did walk to the nearby Talbots outlet one afternoon and I had sushi at the Sushi 101 nearby.
There is a rental carcounter in the hotel and I inquired about renting a car there an dropping it at the airport but they tack on a fifty dollar fee for doing that so it was not worth it. I stored my bags when I checked out and went to the shopping center on my last day there. I asked the bellman to call a cab for me but instead he directed me to a limo service. I rode in an SUV to the airport for forty dollars. the cab fare there had ben thirty-five dollars.
Next time I will rent a car.

Booked on Priceline for $45 a night, so it was a great value. The hotel was very nice and modern. I arrived after 10PM and left by 8 pm the next morning, so I didn't get to experience a lot of the amenities, but the beds were comfy and the room was clean.

“Solid but not a shining example of what Hilton can offer”

I checked in online in the morning before we left Richmond for the drive down I-85 to Charlotte. I'd booked a room with two double beds and it was showing online as unavailable and gave me a choice of several other smoking rooms on the non-Exec level floors despite my profile suggesting I was after non-smoking rooms.

Following the lengthy drive from Richmond the hotel was easily found just off I-85. The other three sorted some stuff out while I went to check-in around 1.30pm. Appeared a lot of other Parrotheads heading for the Jimmy Buffett concert had opted for this property and the non HHonors line was about a dozen long. Checked in and enquired that the room I had preselected wasn't ready yet so I was moved to a different room on the Executive Floor. Was told that I couldn't use HHonors Gold status to get two breakfasts as I had been moved to Executive Floor so had two breakfast coupons. Was told it was possible for the four of us to eat breakfast in the Executive Lounge on the 12th floor. The floor itself seemed a bit tired, much like the exterior of the hotel, and looked in need of refurbishment.

The room itself however was fine. Not huge but it appeared to have been recently refubished and furnished although the bathroom still looked as though it hadn't been touched. A nice view with the Charlotte skyline just visible in the distance. We used the room to get ready for the concert and while everyone else sorted themselves out I checked out the lounge across the way. A nice split level lounge encompassing two floors with a couple of tables upstairs and a few downstairs too. The upper level acted as a balcony overlooking the downstairs. There was a free coffee machine and a few soft drinks laid out and the two floor high windows offered a nice view off to the east.

Went off to the concert at the Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre just a 5 min drive away, enjoyed the tailgate and a great concert. Fortunately had seats so avoided the rainstorm that sorted the men from the boys in the lawn area. When we got back it seemed as those most of the other concert go-ers were enjoying themselves with a few drinks downstairs.

Didn't bother setting an alarm but we were all woken rather earlier than hoped because construction work on the suite across the hall started at 7.45am The drilling was close to unbearable and sounded like it was from the room next door. After about 45mins I found myself in the corridor with another Parrothead from another room who was trying to convince the guys to work on slightly less intrusive work for the next few hours and it worked! We didn't hear anything until we left at 11.30, although to start noisy construction work on the Exec Floor at such a time is ridiculous IMO. Why not in the afternoon? Until the construction everyone slept very well with the other couple noting how comfortable the beds were

Went downstairs for breakfast alone at 9.30 as the others were nursing rather worse hangovers than myself. Waitor service was really good doing rounds with the orange juice and water every few minutes. Very apologetic when he made a slight mistake with a nearby tables order and gave it to them for free. Handed over a breakfast cert from Bounceback rate when I was finished and all was taken care of. He wished me a good day and looked forward to seeing me again soon Used the Zip-Out Check-Out option at 11.30 after the dead had woken and off we wentback to Richmond.

I'd say this property is very convenient, especially in our case but it certainly isn't the epitome of the Hilton brand. Was especially PO'd with the moronic decision to start construction work so early. I should have followed it up with management at the time, since my experience with cock-ups are that Hilton HHonors are very good at sorting them out.

This is my 2nd visit to this hotel. The hotel has gone under a lot of renovations. I would say that I loved everything, except the brown hallways. It makes it a bit dark. The rooms are now phenomenal. Great service from concierge, drivers, and employees.

I stayed here for a business trip and loved my experience. I was given a newly renovated room on an upper floor and it was very nicely done. The hallways were even freshly painted with new carpet in an attractive color scheme. I was impressed with the size of my room. It was very large for a standard hotel room. My bathroom had all the amenities even some that Hilton hotels usually don't have such as body wash and a makeup mirror. The staff was extremely professional and nice. I felt like I was their only guest. They called me up to check on how my room service was after delivering it. I thought that was a nice touch. When I unexpectedly had to check out a day early, they gave me a late check-out so that they would not charge me an extra day. Another bonus was that I also had access to the executive lounge and it was one of the nicer lounges I have been in. It was 2 stories and very spacious. The windows of the lounge overlooked the lake. I would definitely stay here again.
