A few years ago when my children were younger, I used to worry about staying in a "nice" hotel because the kids might stain the carpet or upholstery or break/chip something else. No need to worry here. Chances are that whatever it is, it's already been stained, chipped or broken at least once.
We all know the Embassy Suites formula. An atrium with large 2-room suites all around the perimiter. The rooms have one or two beds in the bedroom, a living room with a sleeper couch and a pseudo-kitchenette with a wet bar, fridge and microwave. Full breakfast in the morning and a "manager's reception" at the better ones in the evening. Personally, I love the formula for both business and personal travel, but from time to time once needs to renovate. It's time here.
I stayed overnight with my family recently because of Useless Airways' inability to make connecting flights connect, so all I saw were the rooms (we had three in total) and the breakfast. Bottom line -- Breakfast good. Rooms, not so much. Each of the rooms were relatively clean (an unemptied waste basket in one gave me pause), but "well lived in." In other words, I wouldn't lie naked on top of the bedspread, not even on a dare.
Partially compensating for the rooms, the staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Both the night and morning front desk managers went out of their way to soothe the stress of nine very aggravated travelers. As well, the morning shuttle driver went above and beyond the call of duty.
Paid $119 per night as a "distressed traveler," which is alright for a business rate. Travelling on my own nickel, however, I would not pay more than $89 for a room, and only if the Holiday Inn Express were booked solid.
Bottom line -- if you need to stay by the airport, this place is tolerable, but I have to assume that there are better digs close by for any sort of extended stay. If they take and renovate the place to mainline Embassy Suites standards, as is sorely needed, I would be happy to stay here again on the strength of the helpful staff.
