Had a one-day business trip and brought the family to go to Carowinds the next day. Used my Starpoints and got the room for nothing.

The location - unless you are at a convention, this is not an ideal "uptown" Charlotte location. It is not a far walk ... but not near as convenient as the Marriott and Omni for good eating & entertainment.

The hotel - typical upscale Westin which is only 3 or 4 years old. However, being next to the convention center, the place can be overrun by convention attendees. This means that a lot of mingling goes on in the lobby and the lobby bar gets overrun. Not ideal for coming downstairs for a night cap drink. Seff -Parking is $16.

The rooms - beds are among the most comfortable. However, they could have made the hotel a little wider (plenty of property) and fit in 2 queens instead of 2 doubles. Had trouble keeping the air conditioning consistent and the TV was not HD. Room was very clean and that is most important.

The restaurant - Had breakfast at the Ember Grille and this was fabulous. Not your typical breakfast buffet ... it had very unique items including deep fried waffles which were out of this world. A bit pricey at $17 (only $7 for children) but well worth it.

The bar - as mentioned, overrun by convention folks and just part of the lobby. Not impressive and not cheap either.

Overall, we have had better stays at the Marriott, Omni, Dunhill (a small boutique hotel) and Hilton. The Marriott and Omni are perfect in location and very comfortable. The Hilton is nice but a few blocks a way from center city. Unless you are in Charlotte for a convention, I would recommend the others (but take the walk to Ember for a breakfast to enjoy).

“A Wonderful Experience at the Westin”

The Westin is a great hotel, from the time we stepped onto the property we were greeted and treated with the upmost respect. From the registration desk to the rooms everything was in order and well prepared for our overnight stay. The food at the Ember Grille was superb.
Our tour guide B. Morgan was wonderful, he is a great intern not saying that just because he's my nephew he knew the aspects of the hotel and we received what we needed in a timely fashion. So I was very pleased with the Westin Hotel of Charlotte and the staff.

“Mixed bag, on the whole, not bad.”

I was having some work done on my home, and decided to crash one night at the Westin. Since I work downtown, usually late into the night, it was an easy place to land.

Overall I like the hotel. Clean, people moving around, it has a good feel. Room was nice, not spectacular, but nice. Bathroom was ok; small tub so no soaking after a hard day of work. Coffee pot in the room was a good thing for the morning. A/C worked well and the beds are plush. I didn’t sleep to well on the beds, but then again, I have a Tempu-Pedic mattress at home and it takes some adjusting to a regular mattress again. So, for me, the “Heavenly Bed” wasn’t so “Heavenly”. So it goes.

Downs sides to the hotel are the $16 dollars you spend for parking per day, no wireless internet in a hotel roughly 3 or 4 years old, $9.95 charge for wired internet access and no soda or snack machines on the floors; ice yes, soda/snack no.

I’ll give it a middle of the road rating. I snagged a rate of $115. That was only a few bills more expensive than a Hilton Garden Inn or Hampton. So, if I had the choice again and got a good rate, I’d pick a stay at the Westin over the others if they would lower the parking costs and get the place up and running on wireless internet access.

“Nice Hotel...Just Don't Try To Send A FedEx Package!”

Well, I was waiting to write this review before I even got back home!

I stayed at the Westin for 4 nights as part of a big convention at the Charlotte Convention Center. The hotel's location couldn't be any more convenient - it's right across the street.

Location-wise for restaurants is just OK - there's nothing really that close other than a pizza joint and some other non-interesting type places.

The room I had was fine -- internet was $9.95/day and since i was there on business and got back to my room late most nights, it was room service for me. Ching ching - a basic ceasar salad or burger and a bowl of soup came to $35 for dinner!! No joke. So much for Charlotte being an inexpensive city.

Well, things were going OK - - until my last night when i was getting things ready to check out. I had to ship out a FedEx package and the lovely hotel desk clerk was of NO help to me and said that I couldn't ship out my package. Great business services. The Westin gets a F for that and I had a little talk with the hotel manager.

All in all, if you want a great location to the Convention Center, you can't beat it....unless maybe the Hilton down the street can actually send your FedEx package for you !

“Terrible Business Services”

This is a very modern and comfortable hotel and if you are just traveling to Charlotte is probably the nicest place you can stay until they build a Four Seasons (we were told it is under construction). However if you need any sort of business services this hotel is not equipped for business travelers.

I stayed at the Westin for 3 nights and the desk staff was generally clueless. The business center computers broke, the copier in the business center broke and even when I asked the front desk to make copies they were not able to make 2 copies without accidently shrinking the document, mixing up the pages and generally making a mess of things. They did not respond to the problems with the business center promptly and in fact I was forwarded by the hotel staff to the outside computer tech support group to find out what was wrong. When I informed the staff about the quick fix tech support gave me, they told me it could not be done but made no effort to try.

They also delivered a fax to me in my room and included in it a highly confidential document FROM ANOTHER GUEST.

The staff was always pleasant but really not very responsive.

The room itself was large and comfortable with a view of the highway. The bedding was "heavenly" as promised.

The hotel bar offers some fun cocktails and was hopping. The hotel restaurant was actually very good and not busy at all.
