Had a one-day business trip and brought the family to go to Carowinds the next day. Used my Starpoints and got the room for nothing.
The location - unless you are at a convention, this is not an ideal "uptown" Charlotte location. It is not a far walk ... but not near as convenient as the Marriott and Omni for good eating & entertainment.
The hotel - typical upscale Westin which is only 3 or 4 years old. However, being next to the convention center, the place can be overrun by convention attendees. This means that a lot of mingling goes on in the lobby and the lobby bar gets overrun. Not ideal for coming downstairs for a night cap drink. Seff -Parking is $16.
The rooms - beds are among the most comfortable. However, they could have made the hotel a little wider (plenty of property) and fit in 2 queens instead of 2 doubles. Had trouble keeping the air conditioning consistent and the TV was not HD. Room was very clean and that is most important.
The restaurant - Had breakfast at the Ember Grille and this was fabulous. Not your typical breakfast buffet ... it had very unique items including deep fried waffles which were out of this world. A bit pricey at $17 (only $7 for children) but well worth it.
The bar - as mentioned, overrun by convention folks and just part of the lobby. Not impressive and not cheap either.
Overall, we have had better stays at the Marriott, Omni, Dunhill (a small boutique hotel) and Hilton. The Marriott and Omni are perfect in location and very comfortable. The Hilton is nice but a few blocks a way from center city. Unless you are in Charlotte for a convention, I would recommend the others (but take the walk to Ember for a breakfast to enjoy).
