We stopped here to visit family. The hotel is well run, clean, the rooms spacious and bright. They have a decent free breakfast. It's located in a good neighborhood with a shopping center across the road and a gas station and car wash within walking distance. The only negative, for us, was the preponderance of guests with dogs. We like dogs but wouldn't particularly want to occupy a room just vacated by a strange dog.

This large property, located on the southside of Charlotte and very close to the South Carolina state line, is relatively new and it shows from the well-maintained grounds to the quality of the rooms. Room size is larger than the normal Residence Inn. Traveling for business, I am on the road over 90% of the year, so the extra room makes a huge difference. The staff went out of their way to help me at nearly every opportunity. The property is located in a brand new, moderately upscale shopping area, with several very nice non-chain restaurants, a Borders bookstore and Target - all within a reasonable walking distance or a very quick drive. There is also a nice fountain located in the shopping area, where local musicians perform on warm summer evenings. Breakfast is above average for Residence Inn. One exit west down the interstate is a superb and very large natural food grocery store, and the following exit has a nice mall with additional restaurant choices. One exit to the east/north is another brand new upscale outdoor shopping area (piped in outdoor music, etc.), with botiques, Starbucks, medium and upscale food choices, and a beautiful grocery store. Downtown Charlotte is about 15 minutes away.

“Absolutely WONDERFUL - Couldn't have been ANY better!”

I can't begin to tell you how happy we were with this hotel! I knew nothing about the hotel when we booked...we just needed a place to stay for race weekend and just about everything was sold out or very expensive. So we booked and hoped for the best and got even better!

Upon arrival from Phoenix, we called for directions and received precise details on how to get there. The staff was WONDERFUL! Very friendly, warm, kind and helpful! The rooms were great - CLEAN, good repair, large and comfortable. The breakfast in the morning and social hour in the evening was awesome! The lady at the morning breakfast is one of the nicest people I've ever met and the breakfast had tons to offer no matter what your taste.

The hotel ended up being sold out that week because of race weekend but the staff never became overwhelmed or cranky. They were all smiles all the time.

I will forever be spoiled by this experience - it's hard to match the wonderful experience we had there!!!

Must go! Stay there! You won't be sorry!

“WARNING. NOT A GOOD PLACE TO STAY”

Though there are many reasons to avoid this hotel, which I will cover shortly, the most important thing to note is that I was overcharged on my bill and they have YET to correct this mistake. I was given a bill, at checkout, that showed what my credit card would be charged. When I received my credit card bill, they had overbilled me by 102.00 dollars. After repeated calls to the hotel manager, that were not returned, I called Marriott customer service. They were able to get in touch with a manager, who apologized (I'm told) and promised to correct the mistake by issuing (that day) a credit to my charge card. This was over a week ago. The credit has NOT been issued, and again, the manager is not returning my calls. Marriott customer service can't get the manager to return their calls, and tells me they can't do anything for me until they can get in touch with the manager. This is BEYOND unacceptable to me. So, the first think to be wary of is that you may end up paying more than you should, and having to battle to get your bill corrected.
During our stay (4th of July weekend), the pool had major problems and was closed for long periods of time on 3 different days--not cool when you have children who want VERY much to swim on their vacation and can't. The air conditioning did not work in the exercise room 3 of the 5 days we were there, so working-out in this space wasn't possible.
There was a large dog (they allow animals--seems like without limits) in the room next to us that barked NON STOP. The hotel was booked, so they couldn't move us, and apparently couldn't (or wouldn't) do anything about the barking.
They do not use fitted sheets on the beds at this hotel, so it's a very uncomfortable night's sleep--the flat sheet they use bunches up under you all night long, and ends up, by morning, in a mound in the middle of the bed. Annoying and uncomfortable.
2 Beer Cans in the hallway for our entire stay. Detergent dispenser in the laundry facility was empty, and it was far more difficult than it should be to get a refund (from the front desk) on the 1.50 the machine accepted from us without giving us any soap. Well, lots more I could complain about, but I hope you get the picture. This is a hotel to be avoided.

The Marriott Residence Inn in the Piper Glen area of Charlotte NC is not to be missed. Every room is a suite and a very large suite at that! I think my room is as big as my first apartment. Each comes with full size fridge, microwave, dishes, dining area, 2 tv's, seperated rooms, central heating and air....the list goes on and on. The cleanliness of the rooms was impecible and met with my strict standards. The outdoor pool is lovely, but the workout room is a bit small. It only had 2 treadmills, a bike and a stepper. The best thing is the breakfast! Full service, complimentary breakfast with eggs, sausage, waffles, cereal, yogurt, bagels etc. Very good, and it changed daily. Also, each day had a happy hour with complimentary food in the evening. If you're looking for a great place to stay, the Residence Inn has it all.
