Had origianlly looked into staying at the Embassy Suites, but wasn't sure if they had a hot tub, so in my inquiry the 800 number operator told me about the Hilton Garden Inn. The weekend rate was cheaper than the Embassy Suites price and I was also able to get into a room with a whirlpool tub.
The Hilton Garden Inn was a great value. The staff was very friendly and courteous and did everything they could to assist us. They have a free shuttle to places within a 5 miles radius of the hotel, which is great if you aren't into walking around after dark, and when we were there it was raining. Upon arrival when we asked for restaurants close by they provided us with a sheet of paper and a brochure of the Uptown dining. We found this information very helpful. Also they provided us with sheets that had directions to the Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre and also the South Park Mall, which were very easy to follow and helped out a lot.
When we took the shuttle to Uptown for dinner and lunch, both times the drivers were very nice and when we called them to pick us up, we did not have to wait longer than 10 minutes. The shuttle runs until 11pm (or maybe till midnight) and we were able to enjoy ourselves at dinner and not have to worry about driving back to the hotel or paying for a cab.
We were glad that you were able to park for free, which is a plus in my book.
Our room was very clean and fresh. The whirlpool tub was great and the room was very spacious.
We ate at the hotel's restaurant one afternoon and the food was great and a decent price when you compare it to some of the dining available Uptown. For us, dining in the hotel that evening was more convenient and worked out great. They serve large portions and we were able to snack on the leftovers later that evening since our room was equipped with a fridge and a microwave.
All in all, we truly enjoyed our stay. We were happy that we happened upon this hotel and got a great weekend rate. Charlotte was wonderful and we will definitely stay here when we come back!
And as far as things to do in Uptown, we found that there were several places to eat and unwind and I liked the fact that the police were highly visible and alert (especially on a Friday night in a downtown area). I never felt unsafe while out at night with the late night crowd. Plus Uptown is very modern and beautiful.
