“Try another hotel”

Wingate Inn Charlotte / I-77 S

Have stayed in this hotel many times and continue to see quality of it go down. Hotel is getting old and needs updating. mattesses are worn, internet not very reliable and hotel staff not very friendly most of time. If your on a budget, try the Laquinta down the road, cheaper and get about the same room/service wise.

This hotel is on the south side of Charlotte which, since we are going south in the morning, should mean that there wiil not be much traffic.

It's very close to I-77 but the restraurants and gas stations are on the other side of the highway. Not really much of a drive though. The hotel has a nice lobby but the front desk staff did not seem particulary cheerful. This is our first time here and it would have been nice if someone had smiled or seemed pleased we were here. The room is clean and there is a decent size counter in the bathroom, but the place is on the verge of showing wear. I give it another year then...it might look too worn.

We have a King bed room and there is a fridge and coffee maker in the room as well as a chair with a foot stool. The internet was very easy to hook into.

There are real glass glasses and ceramic mugs which is nice. One of the phones in the room is cordless which is also a nice idea.

When we asked the front desk where the restraurants were, we were told in this mall or over somewhere and handed a couple of print outs with the names and descriptions of the restraurants..no map....when you're new in town and someone says "at the South Mall"..that's really not much help.

My other dissapointment was that there were not laundry bags in the closet.

All in all, this hotel was okay..not great but okay, clean and the area is quiet . My biggest compaint were the indifferent staff. On the wall in the lobby are some reward placks for hospitality in 2003...hmmmm Perhaps they've had a managment change??

Hi,

We just returned from a 4 night stay at the Wingate Inn Charlotte Coliseum. The hotel, while not a luxury hotel was very nice. The room we stayed in had 2 queen double beds, one bath,a fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, hairdryer, and one tv. The tv had the option of getting the internet on your tv for $9.95. You could also play Nintendo games, choose 120 minutes of music to listen to, or rent movies still in theaters and recently available on DVD from your in-room tv for $9.95. While we didn't use any of this, I did think it was a nice feature to have available. The rooms were clean and comfortable. There is also a nice chair and ottoman in each room as well as a large desk with internet access if you have a laptop. The beds were nice and comfortable, but the blankets and sheets were somewhat thin. We could've requested extra, which I'm sure would've solved the problem but we never took the time to do that. They have an outdoor pool that isn't very large, but is a decent size. They have a seperate enclosed jacuzzi room that one must use their room key to access as well as a nice workout room that you must use your room key to access. They also have a little office type room available to guests that has 2 computers that you can use to access the internet for free, as well as containing a fax maching and clocks representing all of the US time zones. I used the computer to access the internet to check email and ebay auctions etc... and this was really convenient for me. I imagine that it would be even more convenient for a business traveler. They have a nice breakfast that's included with the room every morning. I never made it down for this as I like to sleep in on vacations but my husband said they offered juices, fruits, cereals, milk, bagels and danishes, eggs, bacon, sausage, and they have waffle batter made up and a waffle maker that guests can use to cook up some Belgian waffles. On Tues. nights they have what is called a "manager's reception" for the guests which includes free beer, wine, nuts, cheese, crackers, cookies, and meatballs. This is also a really nice feature that's included for free. The staff was very friendly and polite and I would definitely recommend this hotel to others and would definitely be willing to stay here at this hotel again myself were I in the area. Also, there are just a great variety of eating places within a 10-15 minute range of the area, several which are listed on their website. We ate at the Cheesecake Factory,Maggiano's,Kabuto Japanese Steak House,PF Chang's and Carrabba's on our visit and enjoyed all of them. All in all, a totally lovely visit and worth every cent.

My husband and I stayed at the Wingate Inn this past weekend for the Nascar race and we were so impressed! The rooms were super clean, the people were very friendly and only to happy to help with everything from directions to those little necessities that we all sometimes forget. Each morning they do a very nice complimetary breakfast which included anything from cereal to freshly made waffles. Overall an excellent stay and we will be looking for this chain to stay more often on our travels.

“Best Bang For the Buck”

Wingate Inn Charlotte / I-77 S

I can't say enough about this hotel. WHAT A GREAT PLACE AND GREAT PEOPLE. Just the sweetest and most helpful front desk staff and housekeepers. My company set a conference for us there and it was great. Setting up our meeting there was the smartest thing the company has done next to hiring me. Anyways, the first night there (Tuesday) they had a managers bar, which was cheese and crackers, meat balls, chips and saulsa and beer and wine. I was very impressed, I have stayed at a lot of hotels and they have never done something like this, they have tried but thier's doesn's compete with this hotel. It was in a great location, it is right off the interstate and across the exit from the hotel is several good restaurants. I can't remember all their names but one was Chilli's, Derby Dinner, and a Japanesse steak house that was great. Some of the people even enjoyed the local Hooters and MacDonald's. The Second night there (Wednesday) they had another Managers Reception it was just as good as the first night's reception. This time they had wings from a local restaurant and about the same as the first night. The rooms were very clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. I travel a lot and I stay in a lot of hotels. If all the hotels were like this one I would be a much happier person. I did stay in another Wingate and I was a little disappointed and I have found that not all of them are ran as well as some of the others. But this one off of I-77 exit #5 is one I will stay at any night of the week.
