Just returned from Charlotte, where I stayed one night at the Residence Inn. I chose the hotel based on other reviews and the management response as posted on Tripadvisor.
I travel frequently for business and am a Marriott Gold member and a Hilton Diamond member. Thus I have stayed in many hotels and usually have a good experience at Marriott properties.
Unfortunately, my experience here was not good. I was in one of the "newly remodeled" penthouse suites. The suite looked overall tired and was dirty. I found a dirty fork on the TV stand. When I went to take a shower in the morning, I found many black hairs inside the tub and shower curtain - EEW. The carpeting was sticky in several places and caused me to feel very uncomfortable walking around barefoot.
Sheets on bed did not fit properly. Fitted sheet was too small for bed and only covered about 1/2 the sides of the mattress. Pillows were a mix of new and old. Old pillows were rock hard.
Although it was obvious that the unit had been somewhat remodeled with newer paint and bathroom counters. The kitchen was tired. Counters were "repaired", range looked to be from about 1984 and was very worn, cabinets were banged up and refrigerator was dented.
Remote control to TV did not work and needed batteries.
Entire unit had odd odor - slight mildew smell.
Seemed to be missing furniture. Lower level bedroom had nothing but a small desk in it. Was a large room - usually there is another table or chair in this space - seemed odd to see this big empty room.
Normally I would have requested a different suite or moved to another hotel. However, I arrived late after working all day and was just too tired to deal with the hassle of moving.
Please note that although this is a convenient area - it is very close to freeway. Lots of road noise - not only here but also at the Marriott and the Hilton where I have previously stayed before.
Although I usually like the extra space and "homey" feel of the Residence Inns - I will not be back to this one.
