Suburb of King's Mountain? That would be in the woods! LOL. King's Mountain itself is a very nice place to live. They also have fine schools. I'd look right where you are going! King's Mountain/Moss Lake. I recommend staying out of West Gastonia and/or Shelby. Also- just over the state line in York County, SC you'll get lower taxes and some nice areas to live. Best wishes.

I'd have to agree, Kings Mountain appears to be a very nice place to live and Moss Lake is beautiful, with great water recreation and nice homesites; there's even a nice golf course there. Kings Mountain State Park and National Military Park nearby both offer more varied recreational opportunities, and interesting education of local and national history. The local hospital also has a very good reputation. -A lot of great amenities, and only about 30 minutes from the "big" city of Charlotte.

As far as the schools go I don't know exact test score details and such, but the other reply, "Bud" is an educator so I think he would be in the know. I've always been impressed that the Kings Mt. High School has it's own aquatic center; VERY rare for any school in NC, much less a small town school. That to me (a competitive year round swim mom) says that there must be a great amount of dedication to the overall quality of schools there, and to the quality of the school enviroment.

Best Wishes!

Lots of Kings Mountain residents commute to Charlotte for work, so you could consider the reverse: live in Charlotte where your son would have many choices for private and public education, and let your husband drive 35 minutes to and from work in Kings Mountain each day. This would be Kings Mountain's loss, but it's a definite possibility for you.

I do not recommend Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools...or the traffic! I-85 from Charlotte west is becoming horrific. With the building of thousands of new homes in Gaston County, new development at the Abbey ( Montcross- Ballantyne style development), the new whitewater park at the Catawba River, etc... my advice is stay as far west as possible!
