I would also like to add..The Homewood suites on Yorkmont rd by the airport...How would you rate it for niceness and security?

Check out the postings here and see what they say. Also be aware of your area the things around you you can also call the hotel and check to see if they have any kind of security . Please I am not trying to scare you nothing like that! I just want everyone to know how it is last night a eldery lady 82 her house was broken into and killed and a few where shot some other part of town. I really don't love any of the hotels by the airport. There is an Embassy Suites off Billy Graham near I-77 that my company puts people up at, but that area isn't the best either, however is a quick drive to the airport or the highway. You need to go a little farther out if you are really concerned about safety. Best wishes!

Renaissance Suites is a nice hotel and is in as safe an area as you can get in the metro region. I have been to functions at this hotel numerous times and it is lovely, has good food and good service. I recommend it. Homewood Suites are consistently good and this one is just down the road from Renaissance. It's a quiet location and I'm sure is safe enough but I think there may have been some car break in there in the past. These happen anywhere and usually because people leave things in the car seat in plain site that people are willing to knock out the window and steal.

I would add that neighborhoods near the airport are not safe ( West Blvd, W. Tyvola Rd, S. Tryon ST., etc...). So, be careful driving at night in those locations.

Near the airport is not safe, but I have stayed in all the hotels in that area as a pilot that commutes to my base of charlotte. The econo-lodge is safe but cars get broken into in the lot. The Homewood suites are really nice for a long stay because of the kitchenette. I parked a rental car there and had no problems. I am a 5'2" female and was safe. There was a weekend night that I arrived back rather late and the down stairs neighbor was smoking out front of their room. This person appeared to be a hooker, but the evening was quiet. There is also good patrol guards all night at the Homewood. But everything near the airport is SUB -Standard as far as safety goes. The Hilton garden inn is also nice, but not near any food.. The Homewood has a shuttle and is walking distance to a couple of bars and a latino market.
